Facts and figures – GTM 2010 / 2011

The GTM Germany Travel Mart™ is the largest incoming event for the German tourism industry. The success story of the GTM began in 1972, and every year a different city in Germany hosts this travel marketplace.

The 36th GTM Germany Travel Mart™ (GTM), held from 18 to 20 April 2010 in the Rhine-Main region, was organised by the GNTB in conjunction with Mainz Marketing. The event was co-hosted by Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden Marketing GmbH.

The volcanic eruption in Iceland that brought air traffic to a standstill over large parts of Europe also had an impact on the 36th Germany Travel Mart™ (GTM). Of the 550 buyers and 90 journalists who were expected to attend – representing a total of 41 countries – only around two thirds were able to make the journey to Mainz. Many overseas delegates, for whom no alternative land route was available, were unable to travel due to the closure of air space.

In order to give exhibitors at this year's GTM the opportunity to meet face-to-face with decision-makers from the overseas travel trade, the GNTB is holding an additional workshop for buyers from Russia and outside Europe from 12-14 September 2010.

Around 140 international partners from Australia, China/Hong Kong, the Gulf States, India, Israel, Japan, Canada, Russia, South Korea and the USA are expected to attend, and around 85 GTM 2010 exhibitors will be taking this opportunity to showcase their products and services to an international audience.

The workshop is being held in the Congress Center of the Sheraton Frankfurt Hotel & Towers, Hugo Eckener Ring 15, 60549 Frankfurt, Germany.

Two evening events in Frankfurt, product seminars on Tuesday, 14 September 2010, and pre-convention tours for the buyers round off the workshop programme.

The focus of next year is on North Rhine-Westphalia: the 37th GTM Germany Travel Mart™ is being held in Cologne/Bonn from 8-10 May 2011.
